What Does a Library Science Teachers, Postsecondary Do?

Teach courses in library science. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of teaching and research.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• 1Conduct research in a particular field of knowledge and present findings in professional journals, books, electronic media, or at professional conferences.
• 2Evaluate and grade students' class work, assignments, and papers.
• 3Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, giving presentations at conferences, and serving on committees in professional associations.
• 4Prepare and deliver lectures to undergraduate or graduate students on topics such as collection development, archival methods, and indexing and abstracting.
• 5Prepare course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
• 6Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
• 7Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
• 8Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.
